Introduction to Bloomberg Terminals
Lesson 1
This first video teaches you the basics like logging in and the terms of use
of the Bloomberg room.
Here is a summary of the terms of use of the room:
- You must only use Bloomberg data for your own learning and research.
- You must cite Bloomberg in any publications.
- Do not try to download large amounts of data.
- No eating and drinking in the room.
Here is a summary of how you use the terminals:
- Log into the computer using your personal King's user name and password.
- Use the Windows key to open the applications menu on the computer.
- Use the user name and password written on the computer to log into the Bloomberg application.
- Specify the security you are interested in by typing the security identifier. For example "GOOG US Equity".
Another word for a security identifier is a Bloomberg ticker. If
you simply try to guess the identifier, the terminal will usually help you find the right identifier.
- Type the function you want to run in the top left and press GO are select the function from the menu. DES shows a description.
BQ brings up a summary screen called the Bloomberg Quote screen.
This second video shows you how to compare the market data you can see in
the Bloomberg terminal with market movements that make it into the newspapers.
Exercise
Find the security identifier used by Bloomberg for the Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
of the US and view a graph. You can use this to spot when recessions have occurred in the US. By definition, if GDP falls
for two successive quarters, you are in a recession.
